Tackle the Reapplicant Essay!

The reapplicant essay can be a headache –but don’t fear, after reading this you’ll have a better handle on it!

Where to begin? Well it is important to reflect on the past year since you have applied. Ask yourself these questions:

  • How have I improved my application?

  • What classes have I retaken? How did I do in them?

  • What did retaking these classes teach me about myself?

  • What suggestions were you given that you took in to account?

  • Have you gained more observation hours to stay knowledgeable?

  • What did you learn about yourself over the past year?

  • Why do you still want to pursue physical therapy after a year since you last applied?

  • What fuels you fire to become a physical therapist?

  • Have you discovered a field in physical therapy that you are passionate about?

  • How do you stay up to date with what is changing in the physical therapy field?

  • How are you now ready for physical therapy school compared to before?

  • Have you retaken your GRE?

  • Why are you reapplying to that particular school again?

After you have a few answers to these questions begin to write about them. Talk about how retaking a class furthered your understanding of the material. Talk about what inspired you over the past year. Mention that although you are reapplying you have refused to give up.

Here is an simple outline of how I structured my reapplicant essay:

  • I wrote about how I wasn’t going to give up on applying. I also included what classes I retook, what grades I received, and how much better I understood the material

  • I wrote about how I became a research assistant in the year since applying

  • I wrote about other observation hours I gained and my experiences there. I also included in this paragraph how I worked as a rehab aide and what I learned from that.

  • I wrote about what I learned about myself over the year since I last applied

  • I wrote about my appreciation for physical therapy, how it was the career for me, and why I was reapplying to their program.

I hope this posts helps some of you who are reapplying !
