  • Pre- Studying For Your Program

I received a great question today about how I am going to pre-study for my DPT program. For the past few weeks I have begun to study little things. Now I have heard different things about studying prior to your program that it can be good and bad. My take on this is - study the really simple basic stuff like:

  • Skeleton/Bones

  • Major nerves

  • Some major muscles

  • Medical Terminology

So based off of books that students from my school and others have recommeded here are the materials I have been using:

ANATOMY:

Netters Anatomy Coloring Book:

Trail Guide To The Body (This was recommended by students in my program and I think it's great! ) It breaks down anatomy in an easy form and will also be great to use for PT school. It also discusses palpitations for when the time comes to learn them in PT school.:

HELPFUL ANATOMY WEBSITES:

-I am also using getbodysmart.com they have great interactive material for anatomy!

In addition, newgradphysicaltherapy.com has a great Audio series on Anatomy that can be found here

     - They have a fun interactive way to learn everything I love it!

FUTURE BOOKS I PLAN TO PURCHASE:

I plan on purchasing the Netters Anatomy Atlas, to further my understanding and use it as a resource for school. Here is a link to it on Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Atlas-Human-Anatomy-Interactive-Ancillaries/dp/1455704180

And I also came across these books. Have any of you guys ever heard of them? I am going to read reviews and let you know which one I end up picking, or if they are worth buying as supplemental material. :

Grant's Dissector can be found here on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Grants-Dissector-Tank-15th/dp/1609136063/ref=pd_bxgy_14_img_z

Clinically Oriented Anatomy can be found here on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Clinically-Oriented-Anatomy-Keith-Moore/dp/1451119453/ref=pd_sim_14_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=03FNM7PS879W7S2AZ9ST

Medical Terminology

Next to study Medical Terminology my school recommended to look in to the free class that Des Moines University offers. It's really great for reviewing!  The class can be found here:

Hope this helps! Let me know of ways you are studying prior to Physical Therapy School. With that said, I am lighly studying because I do not want to confuse myself before school. Sometimes you may be taught another way. Therefore I am just trying to figure out what will work best for me. These are just my ideas that I wanted to share with you.
